Our Company History

In the summer of 1993, Paul Arpin Van Lines, the Nations seventh largest mover, established Arpin of Richmond. This corporate owned agency was set up to service its Corporate Accounts and also to service the van lines military business at Fort Lee.

By 1995 Arpin of Richmonds revenues were $400,000 annually. Paul Arpin brought in Wes Stewart as Arpin of Richmonds new general manager to achieve increased business and to better establish the agency locally as a leader in quality moving services.

Under Mr. Stewarts management and through the hard work and dedication of the employees, Arpin of Richmond began to excel. In 1997 Arpin of Richmond received an award from Paul Arpin Van Lines for BEST COMPANY STORE FINANCIAL TURNAROUND and also was recognized with a second award for GREATEST INCREASE IN SALES. Overwhelmingly positive feedback from Arpin of Richmond customers began to reach the attention of the Van Line. The Van Line responded by assigning more of its Corporate Account moves to the Richmond based agency. That same year Arpin of Richmond experienced a substantial increase in military move bookings and received a certificate of appreciation from Fort Lee in recognition for Superior Service to the members of the armed services at Fort Lee.

In 1999 Paul Arpin Van Lines established Stewart Moving and Storage as a second local company to service military moves and established a sales department with a full-time salesman. That same year the local agency was recipient of the SUPERIOR CUSTOMER SERVICE award from Paul Arpin Van Lines.

In April of 2000 both companies became independently owned and operated by Mr. Stewart. They proudly serve now as prime agents for the nations seventh largest mover, Paul Arpin Van Lines. Again in the year 2000 the local agency received the SUPERIOR CUSTOMER SERVICE award from Paul Arpin Van Lines and received additional recognition from the Van Line with awards for TOP HAULING AGENT and for BEST MILITARY AGENT. Combined revenues for both local agencies during the year 2000 reached $1.2 million.

In January 2001 Stewart Moving and Storage acquired key personnel and launched its Commercial Division. Stewarts Commercial Division has experienced early success with the successful completion of Richmond area commercial move projects for companies such as Culligan, Ethyl Corporation, UPS, Royal & Company and VMS. The professional sales staff was increased from one full-time salesman to two bringing significant increased businesses from the local and interstate move market. The local agency once again was the recipient of the SUPERIOR CUSTOMER SERVICE award from Paul Arpin Van Lines and was for the second time recognized as TOP HAULING AGENT and BEST MILITARY AGENT. 2001 combined revenues soared to $2.2 million.

In 2002 Stewart Moving & Storage and Arpin of Richmond moved from Henrico County to a facility at 1405 Valley Road in the City of Richmond. The new location more than doubled the storage capabilities of the company and includes modern state of the art office space for our professional staff. At the height of the 2002 peak season over 600,000 pounds of household goods were safely stored inside the 36,000 square foot facility.

Paul Arpin Van Lines again recognized Arpin of Richmond as Top Hauling Agent and also as Best Military Agent for 2002. Most importantly, SUPERIOR CUSTOMER SERVICE has continued as a mainstay for the local agency! Once again Arpin of Richmond was the recipient of the prized SUPERIOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AWARD.
